Uva Trattoria Italiana Review
Cali-Italian restaurant on the heartier side. Half-plates make it an interesting and relatively inexpensive place to go wtih friends.

Uva Trattoria food
Uva is one of our backup places to eat if we're in the mood for Italian (fine, Cali-Italian). The dishes are on the heartier, heavier side. One of the things that we like best about Uva is that they serve half-plates. Instead of getting two dishes, maybe we'd get 3-4 half-plates instead. The portions on the half-plate are fairly generous as you can see by the plates below. Calorically speaking, a half-plate is probably what you should be having for your meal, but you're not really eating in Napa Valley because you're on a diet are you?
We think Uva's food is dependable and solid. It's not spectacular, but its prices, particularly on the half-plates side, are pretty good. It's a bit of backup-plan for us if we're just wondering around Napa and are in the mood for this sort of Italian. Yeah, sure we like Bistro Don Giovanni better, but that one's frequently busy and loud and we have to drive up 29. We think the food's better than Allegria or Villa Romano. If we want more downscale and not as heavy, then maybe we go to Fabrizio's.
Here's the rigatoni bolognese half-plate. The bolognese is a little on the weakish side. I make a much better one at home. But if you're in the mood for a tomatoey meat sauce, it'll work fine.

Next up is the half-plate gnocchi with a gorgonzola sauce which is a better dish than the rigatoni.

Here's the half-plate of the fettuccine with chicken and mushrooms. Probably our favorite of the dishes we had.

And here's the vegetarian lasagna half-plate.

And finally for dessert, a strawberry shortcake (no half-plates here.)

Uva Trattoria setting and service
Service is friendly and fine. They do live music fairly often; here's the schedule if you like or don't like that kind of thing. When it gets full, it can be pretty noisy plus the music.
Price of our meal
4 half-plates, two glasses of wine, 1 dessert, tax, tip = $83
1 appetizer, 2 entrees, 2 glasses of wine, 1 dessert, tax, tip = $90-$100
