Pizzeria Tra Vigne Review

Probably the best pizza overall in Napa Valley. Wood-fired Neapolitan pizzas that you can customize with a variety of quality ingredients, a decent wine selection, and a casual dining environment that's kid-friendly.

Pizzeria Tra Vigne Food

The website says that their pizzas are Neapolitan style, and they are quite good. The crusts are medium-thickness and cooked in a wood-fired oven. We tried their calamari fritto misto once, and it was fine with the occasional twist like including shiitake mushrooms. As for the pizzas-well, what can I say?  They're very yummy and hearty. They go great with a glass red wine (pizza and beer, you say?  pfffft! The answer to all of life's problems is a hearty pizza and a good, full-bodied red wine. Trust me.). They also offer what they call "Piadine" which look like pizza flatbreads with salads on top. They look pretty good, but I've never tried one, since I've never been one to ruin a good pizza with unnecessary roughage. Pizza Azzurro does something similar ("manciatas"). Their pizzas are pretty big, we usually get two small ones, and we have plenty left over for lunch the next day.

We mostly make our own pizzas from the ingredients on the menu.  I'm a sucker for roasted eggplant, and theirs does not disappoint. They have a few pre-loaded pizzas on the menu, a couple with cute names like "Vespa" and "Ducati."  We've had the Ducati a few times, because we've discovered that mortadella is very good on pizza. Pizzeria Tra Vigne is probably our favorite pizza place in the Valley. It's a great crust, the wood-fired crust, the ingredients are really good and varied, you can go for a fancier gourmet pizza or go with those simple favorites, and so on.

So, here's a popular question? Which is better Tra Vigne Pizzeria or Azzurro? Pizzeria Azzurro has delicious, gourmet, thin-crust style pizzas, but you have to pick from the pizzas that they have avaialble. We love Azzurro, and we eat there more often than Tra Vigne Pizzeria since it's a lot closer, but overall, we like the heartier, do it yourself pizza styles. YMMV.

Pizzeria Tra Vigne offers several wines by the glass, bottle, or a "Terzo," which if my pidgin Italian serves me, means "third."  I will go out on a limb and say that a "terzo" of wine is a third of a bottle, which, if my pidgin math serves me, means that you'll get 250 milliliters of wine. The restaurant also has no corkage, which is nice for those of us who may want to bring our own bottle and not have to pony up $15-$20 for them to open it and pour it.

Pizzera Tra Vigne has started serving gelato. They don't make it in-house; it comes from some place in Santa Rosa. For a gelato that isn't made in-house, I thought ours was pretty good. A bit gooey, cool, and creamy like a good gelato should be. Definitely worth getting as a dessert.

Pizzeria Tra Vigne setting and service

This restaurant is next door to Tra Vigne restaurant, and it is quite different from its parent. Tra Vigne is definitely a grown-up's restaurant. Pizzeria Tra Vigne on the other hand, is much more family friendly. It is quite common to see large families or groups of teenagers hanging out enjoying a casual night out. There are pool tables, and plasma TVs showing sports channels--a very casual, cheery vibe. Service overall has been fine for us.

Price of our meal

2 pizzas, 2 glasses of wine = $50
